Looking Back & Happy Winter Solstice!

Sitting here reflecting on this stormy Solstice day. And thinking back to before there was a Valhalla Soap Co. Back to when it was just our little family on our first little farm with a bunch of chickens and a small herd of goats. And WAY more goat milk than we knew what to do with. We learned to make cheese, lots of it! We clabbered the milk and fed it to the chickens until even they didn't see it as a treat anymore. We had SO much milk!
And then that fateful day came...the day that a friend said, "You should make soap out of it." And as they say, the rest is history.

It's been a wonderful, rich history full of adventure and blessings. One that we could not have experienced had it not been for all of our beautiful supporters. So on this Solstice day we want to take a moment to thank all of you who have been a part of this journey in any fashion. Be it Facebook, Youtube, Twitter or other social network followers, sharer-ers, retweeters, commenters and reviewers. Or those who have faithfully purchased product and kept the light bill paid. Everyone of you has been paramount in our journey to climb the mountain. There to offer a hand up or a gentle nudge. And we wouldn't want to travel this road without any of you, our friends, our family, our CLAN! Thank You!!

Happy Winter Solstice! May you have a Blessed Yule and may Odin and Frigg bless you and your families now and in the coming year.

Fall Orders Update - Round #1

Dearest Clan,
I know that some of you are getting the automated emails asking you to review your recently ordered products. And sadly some of you have not yet received those products. And for that I apologize profusely. I cannot tell you how sorry I am and how heavily that weighs on my heart every day. With each release, our little indie biz is growing by leaps and bounds. And our Round #1 Fall release was way bigger than I could handle alone. With Matt working a second job I was way over my head with the amount and size of orders that we received. Fortunately he has been in the shop with me all this week and has been a huge help with getting orders out. It's been slow, but we are trudging through them. Just to give you an idea, I've been pouring wax melts for 3 days now!! And I'm still not done confused emoticon So anyway, again, I'm so sorry for the long TAT. And I appreciate your being patient with us as we grow. You guys are the BEST! heart emoticon

Saving Superman

So yesterday I'm sitting here having my morning coffee when all of a sudden there is a loud *THUD* that hit the window behind me so hard that it nearly shook the house. Mind you this window is protected on three sides by a covered deck. And we have seldom if ever have birds fly into it. Unlike our other windows which we've had to hang hawk silhouettes in. Anyway, I ran outside to see what happened and sure enough there on the deck lay this poor little bird. With my heart breaking I scooped him up. He was barely breathing and had some blood coming from his mouth. Thinking he was a goner I sent a prayer out to Mother to take him swiftly.
At this point I began hearing scratching noises coming from the roof. Tiiiin Roof!! (sorry had to get that B-52's reference in there ;) ) And lo and behold there perched on the edge of the deck roof was a big Sparrow Hawk! So I gave him a stern talking to and informed him that he would not be having this little guy for breakfast today. Then I shooed him away and brought the little bird inside. I held him close and fed him as much loving, healing energy as I could for about an hour. So much for starting work early.

Well, all but being able to fly. Which required me to dig out the spare bird cage, clean it and get him settled in. Seems the bonk on the head cause a stroke of sorts and his left side just isn't cooperating with the idea of flight just yet.
So we will take care of Superman (that's the name we've given him because he's able to crash into plate glass windows and bounce back up, lol), check his flight skills daily and give him lots of love until he can be free again. And if that day doesn't come, then he will join our family permanently. Our cockatiel Loki will be happy to have a friend.
If anyone has any experience feeding convalescing wild birds we would love to hear from you :)

New Cream Soap Formula...

...not to be confused with Whipped Soap.

So I've been working for some time now on a formula for cream soap. Yes, actual cream soap. The kind that usually takes months sitting around in buckets, bowls, jars or what not "rotting" (curing). But as they say, "ain't nobody got time for that!"

The picture to the right shows my latest test batch. It will be ready to test tomorrow. Yep, after just 10 days of curing. So far testing for this formula has gone very well. And if tomorrows test goes as I expect that it will, then we will be offering a gentle, foaming facial cleanser on our website very soon.

Just to clarify, this is NOT whipped soap. It does not contain any surfactants. It is a made from scratch true soap such as cold process soap that utilizes both sodium and potassium hydroxide and goes through trace and saponification just like cold process soap does. It is an entirely different animal from whipped soap. Both are wonderful products individually and each has their own lovely characteristics but they are also quite different from one another.

I can't even tell you how anxious I am to get some of this in my hands tomorrow and run to the sink. I'll be counting down the minutes until tomorrow even when I can quit work and jump into the show with a little jar scented in 7 Sins From Sunday!!

Stay tuned...

Victory Cometh!!!

Vikings!! We can smell victory!!  We have accomplished so much the past few days. We admit that your plunder has overwhelmed us! But Odin will smile upon us tomorrow, we are sooooo close! Thank you from the bottom and top of our hearts, for hangin with us! All of you ROCK our world!

Well, as many of you have probably noticed, we didn't make it to reopen today. As I did mention before, this could be an extended closure. We had ALLOT and I do mean ALLOT of orders to wade through. We have worked everyday, all day with no days off since we closed. And still have a few orders left to finish up. And we have not even had the chance to start making product to restock yet. So give us another week. We are doing the best we can. Remember, it's just the two of us :)

Thanks for your patience!!
